Egg preference can elevate a dish or break the experience. Here’s a breakdown for clarity, with instructions—and what your egg style might say about you:
Sunny Side Up: Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-low. Add a bit of butter or oil, then crack in the egg gently. Cook without flipping for 2–3 minutes, until the white is set but the yolk is still bright and runny.
What it says about you: You’re optimistic, artsy, and probably take your coffee black or cold brew style.
Over Easy: Start as above, but once the white is mostly set, gently flip the egg with a spatula. Cook for an additional 15–20 seconds. The yolk should remain runny.
What it says about you: You like balance and control but still know how to have fun. You might also cut your sandwich diagonally.
Over Medium: Flip the egg after the white sets, and cook for 30–45 seconds more. The yolk will be thick but not fully solid.
What it says about you: You like reliability and consistency. You probably alphabetize your spice rack (or wish you did).
Over Hard: Flip the egg and cook for about 1–2 minutes until both the white and yolk are completely cooked through. Press gently with the spatula to ensure firmness.
What it says about you: You know what you want. You don’t take chances. You might own a cast iron skillet that’s older than you.
Bonus Eggs!
Scrambled: Fluffy and forgiving. Whisk eggs with a splash of milk or cream, season with salt, and cook low and slow while stirring gently for soft curds.
What it says about you: You’re friendly, dependable, and great at potlucks. You give good advice and always bring the hot sauce.
Poached: See Section 2! Elegant and composed. Often found on benedicts or avocado toast.
What it says about you: You're classy, unbothered by chaos, and probably have a favorite wine glass.
Boiled: Timing matters:
4 min: soft, runny yolk
6 min: jammy
8 min: creamy center
12 min: fully set
What it says about you: You’re practical, efficient, and you just might meal prep for the week.
After boiling, toss them in ice water to stop cooking and make peeling easier.
